Blytheweigh attends PDAC, Toronto, 2019
Following the heat of Indaba in Cape Town, it is always a bit of a shock to fly into Toronto and its minus 20 degrees temperatures for PDAC.
However, on arrival, you soon get swept up by the buzz of this great conference and Toronto’s stunning architecture.
That said, Sunday always starts with the “Retail Investor” day and, for the first time, investors were asked to pay an admission charge. Unsurprisingly, the corridors and booths felt a little emptier than in previous years. However, come Monday the numbers seemed to be back up and the Bw clients at the show – including Strongbow and Condor Gold – seemed particularly busy.
We also had the chance to catch up with our Toronto-based Associate Director, Nicole Marchand which proved formative for our plans for cannabis marketing in the UK.
The impact of cannabis on the Canadian mining sector should not be under-estimated; large amounts of capital which would, only a few years have been invested in gold, copper and other minerals are now being invested in both recreational and medicinal cannabis. It does leave something of a cloud over the world’s biggest mining conference.
However, such is the mining and mine finance expertise in Canada, this market will certainly bounce back.
