As an actor, director, and producer I have a passion for storytelling, and I continually return to the question of how to capture and hold an audience’s attention. Why do certain stories, certain performances, grab our attention and stick in our memory?

I have produced and directed a multiple award-winning series of documentary films, exploring the lives and work of Nobel-prize winning scholars. I founded a successful and critically acclaimed theatre company. As an actor and director, in the U.S. and internationally, my work ranges from the commercial to the highly experimental. From city professionals to actors and circus performers, and from the fringe to the Royal National Theatre, I have coached those wishing to improve the impact of their presence. In all of these ventures, the essential questions of how to communicate to an audience remain the same.

The size of the “audience” does not matter, whether it is 400 people in an auditorium or a single potential client sitting across the table. We’ve all experienced a presentation or performance that grabbed us from the start, held our attention, and kept us watching and listening. Why does one presentation rise above the others, and not only hold our attention, but also leave a lasting impression?
