I feel very fortunate to have spent the last decade doing something that I genuinely enjoy. For me, there is no better profession to be in than Public Relations. The industry has developed at a rapid pace in recent times, with communications professionals taking on roles of increasing strategic importance within major global businesses. The real beauty of the job, though, is its variety. In order to communicate effectively with the increasingly wide range of stakeholders that businesses have, the role involves becoming fully-ingrained with all aspects of company business, which is a fascinating challenge in itself.
My PR career started at Mittal Steel, the world's largest steel company, where I had responsibility for coordinating Group communications at corporate level and across the Group's worldwide operations. During my time with the company we completed 13 major M & A transactions, culminating in the $42billion merger with Arcelor, cementing not only the company's reputation as the undisputed leader of the global steel industry, but also Lakshmi Mittal's personal reputation as a global business leader of significant stature.
From Mittal, I moved into consultancy, managing a range of private and listed clients across sectors including banking, real estate, technology, aviation and enterprise before co-founding Blythe Weigh Communications in June 2007.
In addition to looking after the needs of our clients, I am also driven by the challenge of building Blythe Weigh into a world-class communications and advisory agency. Just over two years old, we have made a strong start, and with the right people, I have every confidence of developing the Company into one that will be widely recognised for helping our clients address critical communications challenges that may affect their reputation and ambitions.
